Valence 1.7.0 - A whole new look

The biggest visual update Valence has ever shipped. Same workspace, same everything-where-you-left-it: dressed the way it always should have been.

What’s new

• Glass, everywhere it counts. The composer, menus, panels and windows sit on layered glass surfaces with depth and light behind them. The send button became something you actually want to press.
• One color, the whole app follows. Pick an accent color and every button, ring, highlight and chart retints to match: one choice, applied everywhere.
• Change the look from the top bar. The new appearance picker puts themes, your accent color and visual effects one click away instead of a trip into Settings, with an effects toggle that tones the glass down without changing anything else.
• A typeface of its own. Valence now ships with Barlow, bundled inside the app: identical on every machine, never phones home for a font.
• A calmer top bar. Token usage is a small donut, the notification bell and autosave tick appear only when they have something to say, and long model names shorten only when space actually runs out.
• X-Ray grew up. The response inspector is reorganized into four views, Story, Context, Model and Engine, behind one row of chips. The new Engine view charts your model’s performance over time: reading speed, writing speed and cache reuse, turn after turn.

Fixes

• The font picker works again, and menus size themselves to their contents.
• The update banner is legible in every theme.
• Very narrow windows keep every control reachable instead of clipping them.
• Switching local models mid-answer waits for the current reply to stop cleanly; panels no longer close themselves mid-use.
• Pressing Enter in the composer arms the full send sequence reliably.
• A Kids Mode gap closed: the new engine-performance route is gated by the parental X-Ray toggle like every other X-Ray surface.
