Valence 1.7.1 - Alerts that wait for you
Kids Mode’s alerts had a timing problem: they fired while the child was still using their profile, and several buttons on the parent dashboard didn’t do anything yet. This release fixes the whole path — from noticing something, to telling you about it, to letting you act on it.
What’s new
- Notifications wait until you’re back. Alerts used to appear while your child was mid-conversation — on their screen, about them. Now they hold quietly and arrive when you switch to a grown-up profile, so they reach you instead of the person they’re about.
- Every alert opens what it’s about. Clicking a notification takes you straight to the conversation that triggered it, and a badge on the bell tells you how many are waiting.
- The bell disappears in Kids Mode. Notification history is a record of concerns about your child. It is now completely hidden while their profile is active — not just dimmed.
- Better at noticing indirect language. Children rarely say difficult things plainly. Valence now recognises phrasings it used to miss — the same sentence with an extra word dropped in the middle, or a feeling described sideways instead of directly.
- And quieter where it was noisy. One class of false alarm is gone: ordinary sentences that happened to share their shape with concerning ones — “nobody would notice if I wore a different shirt” — no longer raise an alert.
- Crisis moments are handled from what your child says. Valence now reads the child’s own message for signs of crisis rather than only checking its own reply, so support surfaces even when the conversation takes an unexpected turn.
Fixes
- Conversation tips in the parent dashboard open real guidance instead of doing nothing.
- Concerning messages are highlighted in the transcript with a short explanation of why they were flagged.
- Marking a conversation reviewed records who reviewed it and when.
- The quiet hours toggle applies.
Note on first launch
Because the detection changed, Valence re-checks previously saved conversations once after updating. You may see flags on older chats that weren’t there before — that’s the improved detection looking back, not something new happening.
Detection helps you notice things worth a conversation. It isn’t a guarantee, and it isn’t a substitute for knowing your kid.
