Valence 1.8.1 - Thinking shows how long it took

Thinking now shows how long it took.

Valence step trail - a local model thinks for a second, runs the calculator, analyzes the result, then answers 77,076

What’s new

  • Thinking shows time, not characters. The step trail above a reply now reads “Thought for 6s” instead of a character count, so you can see at a glance how long the model spent thinking before it answered.

Fixes

  • After a tool runs — the calculator, the clock or a web search — the step reads “Analyzed the result”. It used to say “search results” even when no search happened.

1.8.1 also carries everything in 1.8.0: the step trail, the four-control composer, web search with your own free Tavily key, the Kids Mode safety fixes, and the Qwen 3.8 27B Balanced download fix.
