Valence for Android 1.5.21 alpha - Long documents, rewritten in sections
Long documents no longer stop at “too large”. Valence now offers to rewrite them in sections, keeps going with the screen off, and gets itself unstuck if the on-device model hangs. Appearance settings now live in one place.
New
- Rewrite a long document in sections. Paste a document that is too long for one reply and Valence offers to rewrite it in sections instead of showing an error. Tap Rewrite it in sections, No thanks, or Details.
- Summary, full rewrite and a “Check these” list. The finished message starts with a short summary, then the whole rewrite, then a list of facts worth checking against your original.
- Keeps working with the screen off. A long rewrite carries on while your phone is locked, and a notification tells you when it is ready. You can pause, continue or resume it, and chat goes first while it runs.
- Recovers by itself. If the on-device model stops responding, Valence restarts it and answers the message that was waiting. If that fails, it tells you in the chat.
- PDF text keeps its line breaks. Text read from a PDF no longer runs a whole page together.
Changes and fixes
- One Appearance sheet. Light or dark, accent colour, glow and motion, and the background are all in the menu’s Appearance sheet. Settings ▸ Appearance opens the same sheet.
- No false “Valence closed unexpectedly”. Stopping an answer that was using a tool no longer shows a crash banner the next time you open the app.
Known issues
- A rewrite can drop the last bullet of a section. The “Check these” list flags what is missing, so check it before you use the result.
- A brief dark corner can flash when you turn some phones sideways.
- Scrolling can be a little less smooth than it should be while the background is showing.
